After years of wrestling with old worn out mowers it was time for a new one, one that starts every time you need it to and handles tall grass with ease.
Experience with (Troybuilt 360):
This was short and not so sweet. We purchased a Troybuilt 360 self propelled rear wheel driven model.
-should have read more reviews!
We purchased this lawnmower in April of 2015 and got about 6 mows out of it on an approximate 1/16 to 1/8 acre lawn area. This mower seemed like a good choice until it decided to quit running abruptly. It never started again, it made loud clanging noises when attempting to start but would not start. After checking everything that the manual says to check we finally just returned this mower to Lowes where we purchased it and received great customer service and we opted for a store credit since we needed a mower asap before the lawn could get any taller.
Experience with Kobalt KM2180B:
Being so disappointed in the Troybuilt model we wanted to try something different.
Looking over the selection the Kobalt electric mower caught our attention. There were three models, two 40V battery models and a 80V battery model. The reviews we found online seemed to be very positive.
We chose to get the 80V battery powered model.
This mower was dead simple to assemble out of the box. It came with two batteries that charge in about 30 minutes and last approximately one hour (a little less with taller grass).

The charger and batteries seemed to be fairly beefy looking and are common with other 80V battery powered Kobalt brand equipment.
So far we have used this mower with damp grass that had grown to about 6" plus in some spots due to our abnormal monsoon like weather lately and had no issues other than the side discharge getting clogged from the damp grass clippings (this would happen with any mower).
We did choose to mow damp grass, which would not be a typical thing to do but because of the high humidity and heat during the day, we thought it best to start early.
Couldn't be more thrilled with this mower's performance!
It is quiet, you can actually talk over it running. It automatically adjusts its speed to match the the load put on the mower by the grass. Starting is as simple as pushing a button then pulling the safety handle back (just like on a regular gasoline engine mower).
When the battery runs down it beeps so that you will know to change it. We put one battery on the charge while mowing with the other. It was nice of them to include two batteries with the mower.
It is not self propelled, however, it doesn't need to be. It is light weight enough that it takes very little effort to push it. It uses no gasoline, no oil, no smelly exhaust, no loud engine racket, and did I mention it was very quiet.
As for the longevity, we shall see as time goes on.
We are looking forward to using this mower for the rest of the season.
What's next from Kobalt in our house? A battery powered leaf blower? Battery powered hedge trimmer?
